<p class="ql-block">《sutter's mill》中文譯為《薩特的磨坊》，是奧斯卡電影《三步殺人曲》中的插曲。這也是Dan Fogelberg（丹 弗格伯特頓）較有影響力的一首鄉(xiāng)村名謠，歌曲以敘事的手法，記講述磨坊人尋寶命運．略顯蒼涼的嗓音與稍快的鼓點給人的感覺正如人生步履匆匆，過段引插的口琴，又似隱隱吹奏著人生的無奈……</p> <p class="ql-block">天然的西部鄉(xiāng)村音樂風(fēng)格，口琴、班卓、吉他、Dobro、Fiddle的伴奏，再配上Dan Fogelberg那草原落日般的嗓音，讓我在第一次聽到這首歌的時候不自覺被它那穿越漫漫時空的滄桑感所擊倒，而后，當(dāng)我看到了歌詞，我無語。</p><p class="ql-block">百年之前，一隊又一隊的美國先驅(qū)，乘著大蓬車，穿越茫茫大平原和高高洛基山，懷著淘金夢來到西部。百年之后，一隊又一隊的我們，乘著飛機(jī)，飛越煙波浩淼的太平洋來到同一個地方，也許我們各自的想法千差萬別，但不可否認(rèn)，我們都懷著自己的美國夢。百年之前，有人會死在羽箭和槍彈之下，有人會一夜暴富。百年之后，你我中一樣有人也會倒在殘酷的競爭之下，有人則會功成名就。于是，當(dāng)聽到“Some fell prey to hostile arrows，As they tried to cross the plains. class="ql-block">歌曲里的主人公：Johann Augustus Sutter （1803-1880），1803年2月15日出生在德國卡登，23歲時娶了一個富有寡婦的女兒為妻，經(jīng)營著一家商店。可是他賺錢的本領(lǐng)遠(yuǎn)沒有花錢的大，于是1834年5月13日為免因債臺高筑而面臨的牢獄之災(zāi)，丟下老婆和5個孩子，從瑞士進(jìn)入法國而后乘船到美國。在美國到處闖蕩，偽造了個軍銜變成“薩特上尉”。1839年7月1日他到了個小小的傳教站－－現(xiàn)在的舊金山前身，在加尼福利亞，他與印第安人和平相處，定居下來。1840年8月他加入墨西哥國籍，并成功游說了墨西哥總督胡安阿爾瓦多，得到了兩百平方英里的處女地。8月中旬他在薩克拉門托河與美洲河交匯處落腳，開始建立要塞，并命名他的王國為新瑞士。1847年墨西哥戰(zhàn)敗，薩特一開始支持成立一個獨立的加利福尼亞共和國，但當(dāng)美國軍隊一度控制了他的堡壘，他放棄了抵抗。北美的第一次大淘金熱于1848年發(fā)生在加利福尼亞薩克拉門托河附近薩特的磨坊。1847年——1848年冬天，J.A．薩特正在建造一鋸木廠，他的木匠J．馬歇爾（James.W.Marshall）于1月24日發(fā)現(xiàn)了黃金，消息立即傳了出去。薩特與馬歇爾已同意成為合伙人，但不久即被幾千名尋求發(fā)財?shù)娜藝ё?，他們搭上帳篷，為了黃金不顧環(huán)境如何。1849年，約有8萬名淘金人蜂擁來到加利福尼亞黃金礦區(qū)。1853年，到達(dá)的人數(shù)為25萬。與典型的形式相同，當(dāng)絕大多數(shù)可開采的礦藏枯竭，有組織的資本和設(shè)備以更有效與更商業(yè)化的經(jīng)營替代個體采金者時，淘金熱勢頭減弱。同時，無法無天、狂暴的淘金營地也讓位給由政府與執(zhí)法部門管理的永久性拓居地。當(dāng)黃金采盡，缺乏其他有生氣的經(jīng)濟(jì)活動時，這些拓居地變成了被廢棄的鬼鎮(zhèn)。鼎盛時期，他占地近5萬多公頃、牛馬羊無數(shù)?？犊蠓健飞坪檬?，而在瑞士的老婆孩子卻掙扎在貧困線上。1855年，由于墨西哥戰(zhàn)敗，美國聯(lián)邦土地局起訴他，將其三分之二的土地沒收。北美的第一次大淘金成了薩特一生的轉(zhuǎn)折點－－它們毀了他，從此他和他的王國開始衰敗。1880年6月18日，他死在國會山附近的小旅館里。6個月后他的妻子病故與其安葬在一起。</p>
