<p class="ql-block"><i>（《解放軍畫報》1958年5月）</i></p> <p class="ql-block"><b> 位于北京天安門廣場中心的人民英雄紀(jì)念碑，是為了紀(jì)念公元1840年以來，為反對內(nèi)外敵人，為爭取民族獨立和人民自由幸福，在歷次斗爭中犧牲的人民英雄們而興建的。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 1949年9月30日，中國人民政治協(xié)商會議第一屆全體會議，通過了在首都天安門廣場建立人民英雄紀(jì)念碑的決議。那天傍晚，毛澤東主席協(xié)同出席中國人民政治協(xié)商會議的全體代表，在天安門前廣場上舉行了建立紀(jì)念碑的奠基典禮。以毛主席為首的政協(xié)各單位首席代表一一執(zhí)锨鏟土，奠下紀(jì)念碑的第一塊基石。后經(jīng)全國廣泛討論，確定碑型。到1952年，全國優(yōu)秀的建筑師和專家們共設(shè)計了一百多種圖案，經(jīng)有關(guān)方面通過各種方式征求各界人民的意見，歸納、修正成最后的圖樣。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 人民英雄紀(jì)念碑興建委員會由北京市長彭真任主任委員，鄭振鐸、梁思成任副主任委員。委員會下設(shè)工程處，分設(shè)計、施工、采石、美術(shù)工作等7個組，進(jìn)行工作。此外，專設(shè)一個委員會，在中國科學(xué)院現(xiàn)代史研究所所長范文瀾領(lǐng)導(dǎo)下，研究浮雕畫片所需的史料題材。紀(jì)念碑于1952年8月1日正式動工修建，1958年4月22日落成，同年5月1日隆重揭幕。</b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b> 人民英雄紀(jì)念碑呈方形，建筑面積為3000平方米。紀(jì)念碑分碑身、須彌座和臺座三部分，共高達(dá)37．94米，是我國自古以來第一座最大的紀(jì)念碑。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 承托碑身的碑座是大小兩層須彌座。上層座呈方形，下層座為海棠形，東西寬50．44米，南北長61．5米。四面分別雕刻牡丹、菊花、蓮花和垂幔所組成的八個花環(huán)，象征人民英雄可貴不屈的堅貞革命品質(zhì)。碑座筑有兩層月臺，四周環(huán)繞著潔白晶瑩的漢白玉欄桿、臺階。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 在下層大須彌座束腰部四面鑲嵌著八幅漢白玉大型浮雕，分別以虎門銷煙、金田起義、武昌起義、五四運(yùn)動、五卅運(yùn)動、南昌起義、抗日游擊戰(zhàn)爭、渡江戰(zhàn)役為主題。在渡江戰(zhàn)役的浮雕兩側(cè)，另有兩幅裝飾性浮雕，為支援前線和歡迎人民解放軍。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 浮雕高2米，總長40．68米，共有約170個人物形象，概括而生動地表現(xiàn)出我國近百年來驚天動地的革命史實。</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 兩層須彌座承托著高大的碑身。碑身是一塊長14．7米、寬2．9米、厚1米、重達(dá)60多噸的大石。</b></p> <p class="ql-block" 碑身正面（北面）鐫刻毛澤東題詞“人民英雄永垂不朽”八個鎏金大字；背面是毛澤東起草、周恩來題寫的碑文：“三年以來，在人民解放戰(zhàn)爭和人民革命中犧牲的人民英雄們永垂不朽！三十年以來，在人民解放戰(zhàn)爭和人民革命中犧牲的人民英雄們永垂不朽！由此上溯到一千八百四十年，從那時起，為了反對內(nèi)外敵人，爭取民族獨立和人民自由幸福，在歷次斗爭中犧牲的人民英雄們永垂不朽！”</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 碑身兩側(cè)裝飾著用五星、松柏和旗幟組成的浮雕花環(huán)，象征人民英雄的偉大精神萬古長存。整座紀(jì)念碑用17000多塊花崗石和漢白玉砌成，肅穆莊嚴(yán)，雄偉壯觀。</b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b>
